Trump says won´t fire embattled Russian Federation probe official

U.S. President Donald Trump shakes hands with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein at the conclusion of a roundtable on immigration and the gang MS-13 at the Morrelly Homeland Security Center in Bethpage New York U.S

Later, on Air Force One, Trump also discussed Chicago crime with embattled Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, as the potential for his resignation or firing seems to have diminished for now.

Trump - who had delayed a previously announced White House meeting in which expectations were high that Rosenstein would depart - said they were going to talk Monday during a trip to Florida.

Trump told reporters Monday that he has a "very good relationship" with Rosenstein.

At a news conference two days later, Trump declared: "My preference would be to keep him and to let him finish up".

"The crime spree is a awful blight on that city, and we'll do everything possible to get it done", Trump said.

Asked if Rosenstein still has the job, Gidley replied, "Yes". The same day, Trump and Rosenstein spoke by phone while the president was at an United Nations conference in NY.

The deputy attorney general oversees special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russian election interference and links between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

"It works, and it was meant for problems like Chicago", Trump said. They postponed the meeting amid the Kavanaugh confirmation battle and speculation has abounded that Trump might fire Rosenstein.

Rosenstein has denied the September 21 New York Times report as "inaccurate and factually incorrect". As he walked out of the executive mansion that day, Kelly made sure to join him and shook his hand in view of photographers.

Thank you as well to our Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for being here.

Trump said Kavanaugh would be "a faithful defender of the rule of law".

"Any effort to undermine the Mueller investigation will be obstruction of justice", Hoyer said.

Just weeks before the midterm elections, Trump accused Democrats of being soft on crime. Despite protests, Trump backed him the whole time.

Upon landing in Orlando, Florida, Trump told reporters that his 30-minute conversation with Rosenstein had been "great".

Besides the meeting with Trump, Rosenstein has also agreed to a private meeting with House Republicans who want to question him about his reported statements on the president.

House Judiciary Chairman Robert W. Goodlatte says he plans to subpoena the Justice Department for memos Andrew McCabe wrote during his tenure as acting Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

The use of "stop-and-frisk" has since been dramatically reduced in NY, with fewer than 11,000 stops reported in 2017 compared to more than 680,000 in 2011.
