Israeli forces detain 13 Palestinians in West Bank raids

Clashes often erupt between Palestinian youth who attempt to block soldiers' passage, throwing stones and empty bottles and are met with live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas canisters, often resulting in serious, sometimes fatal, injuries.

The military said that the suspect used a homemade "Carlo" gun in the attack.

Israel's Magen David Adom emergency medical services said their medics had entered a building at Barkan and found a man and woman dead.

Army spokesman Jonathan Conricus said the 23-year-old Palestinian had worked in the Barkan industrial zone, where the attack took place in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance group said it was a "natural response" to Israeli crimes in Gaza, occupied Jerusalem and Khan Al Ahmar, a bedouin village in the West Bank slated for demolition. She is in a severe yet stable condition.

Thousands of Israelis and Palestinians work side by side in the industrial zone, which includes some 160 factories.

The Israeli army has launched a manhunt for the attacker.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stark warning to the Palestinian Authority and to the worldwide community during Sunday's cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.

Barkan has been touted as a rare example of Israeli-Palestinian coexistence.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the West Bank murder, setting off a mass Israeli response against the group.

According to Gaza's Health Ministry, 29 activists were injured when Israeli naval forces opened fire on the vessels as they approached the maritime border.

Israel settlements are considered illegal under worldwide law and major stumbling blocks to peace as they are built on land the Palestinians see as part of their future state.

Israeli sources told local media that Na'alowa, who left a suicide note with a friend days before the attack, likely remains armed and could engage in a firefight with authorities after they track him down.

Israeli leaders blame Palestinian violence, "incitement" and intransigence for the lack of progress in peace efforts.
