Brewers vs. Dodgers, NLCS Game 6

Manny Machado slides home for the winning run in the Dodgers 2-1 13-inning win over the Brewers in Game 4 of the NLCS on Tuesday night

The NL Championship Series moves from Los Angeles to Milwaukee tonight for Game 6, with the Dodgers leading three games to two.

This time around, there were no shenanigans-no revivals of century-old gambits or attempted rope-a-dopes or not-so-successful starter subterfuge. It was just his fourth time in the leadoff spot in his 10 years in the majors. It's hard for a team to win a playoff game when they only score two runs.

That ended up being 13 solid if unspectacular outs, as Miley once again kept a tough Dodgers lineup off balance. The Dodgers led off with lefty-hitting Bellinger before going with three straight right-handers in the lineup. His only trouble came against resident Brewers killer David Freese, who tagged him for a solo homer to lead off the game and an RBI double in the fifth.

Entering the game with two on and one out, Knebel got Justin Turner to fly out to center before retiring Manny Machado on a swinging strikeout to end the threat. Knebel stayed in and struck out ruining the opportunity. Jeremy Jeffress and Corbin Burnes combined to blank the Dodgers for the final three innings.

Down 3-2 in the NLCS, the Brewers faced a must-win situation during Game 6 on Friday. They've managed only 16 runs while batting.219 with a.653 OPS against the Dodgers, who haven't done much better.

And while the Brewers' relievers have a 3.74 ERA in the series, Milwaukee's problem has not been pitching. However, the Brewers ambushed Hyun-Jin Ryu and went on for a 7-2 victory.

That sent Cain spinning off second and Ryan Braun sprinting from first, and Brewers third base coach Ed Sedar jogging far down the line to wave them home and punctuate each run with a leaping fist pump.

The Dodgers tied the game 1-all on Austin Barnes' RBI single up the middle in the fifth. "They played good baseball today". The awakened offense, then, proved doubly crucial for the Brewers. This placed LA in a division series matchup against the NL East champion Atlanta Braves, whom the Dodgers defeated in four games.

Freese also connected in the first inning of the previous NLCS Game 6 in Milwaukee, helping the Cardinals win the pennant in 2011. Dodgers rookie Walker Buehler faces journeyman Jhoulys Chacin, with well-rested relief ace Josh Hader looming in the bullpen for Milwaukee after a surprise day off.

Don't expect either of those two to be on the mound for long, though, barring stupendous efforts. "One person inside the organization said that on videos of the games, a coach could be seen running from the hallway into the Dodgers' dugout whenever a runner reached second base".

Counsell should have everyone at his disposal.

Hinch noted that the Brewers used reliever Dan Jennings to start a game against the Cardinals on September 24 before pulling Jennings after retiring the first batter. "They'll do the same on Friday".

Clayton Kershaw, who exerted 98 pitches in a masterful Game 5 performance on Wednesday, can give the Dodgers an inning.

It would've been a disappointment if there wasn't a single Game 7 in this entire postseason.
