Bolt Offered Contract offer from Maltese Champions Valletta FC

Usain Bolt Central Coast Mariners

"We were talking about how good it is for Bolt and the Mariners at news he was getting offers from European clubs", he said.

Eight-time Olympic champion Bolt, who retired from the track in 2017, is now on trial with Australian side Central Coast Mariners as he bids to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

On October 13, Valletta's ownership group Sanban Investment Group, based in Abu Dhabi, offered 32-year-old Bolt a two-year deal.

Bolt captured worldwide attention this weekend when he scored two goals for Central Coast Mariners of Australia's A-League in their friendly against Macarthur South West United.

Now, in an Instagram story posted on Monday, the eight-time Olympic gold medallist revealed that Football Federation Australia has ordered him to undergo a drug test.

In a statement to ABC, Valletta FC chief executive officer Ghasston Slimen who said he is inspired by Bolt's journey so far, appeared to confirm the deal.

"This isn't about money, this is about history".

The Australian agent who arranged Bolt's trial with the Mariners declined to confirm or deny the reports when contacted by AFP on Tuesday.

Mariners coach Mike Mulvey said Bolt has until January at the latest to show the team what he can do on the pitch.

"I'd love to become a professional snooker player at 35 but it's not going to happen, yet Usain has a real chance of realising his dream here", he added. Despite not being a professional footballer, Bolt is officially registered with Central Coast Mariners and by the guidelines of Asada, is eligible to be tested.

"It's very much, the ball in the Mariners' court".

Gallop said there was no chance of using the marquee fund to meet Bolt's contract demands, as its objective was to attract proven world-class players.

Bolt, who retired from track and field in 2017, has long publicly expressed his desire to play professional football and previously trained with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
