Former England manager Glenn Hoddle 'seriously ill'

Glenn Hoddle

Glenn Hoddle has been taken to hospital after having fallen seriously ill on Saturday and, while his condition is classified as serious, the former England manager is responding well to treatment.

BT Sport Presenter Jake Humphrey said Hoddle was "taken seriously ill" after appearing as a guest on football programme Saturday Morning Savage.

"Hugely worrying news that Glenn Hoddle collapsed at the BT studios earlier".

"Everyone of us is right with you Glenn, sending love and strength".

Hoddle is credited with playing a significant role in the transformation of Chelsea into one of Europe's leading clubs.

Glenn Hoddle is reported to be in a serious condition in hospital after falling ill at a TV studio this morning.

"Clearly when these things happen there is concern to the welfare of someone I know well, he signed me for Chelsea and was manager here at Southampton when I was a player".

"Everybody across the game is right behind one of English football's greats and we are willing him to pull through". "Get well soon, Glenn Hoddle, we're all behind you".

"Glenn's family are with him and would like to thank everyone that has sent their support".

Brighton boss Chris Hughton, a long-time team-mate of Hoddle's at Spurs, said: "It's very sad news".

"The thoughts of everybody at Wolves are with you". The former AS Monaco player also had a spell at Chelsea as both a player and a manger which lead to the chance to lead his country.

He lost his job the following year after controversial remarks he made suggesting disabled people were paying the price for sins in past lives in an interview with The Times - the remarks all the stranger as he was an ardent fundraiser for disabled peoples charities.

Glenn has three children, Zara, Jamie and Zoe from his first marriage to Christine Stirling, who he was with from 1979 to 1998.
