Jamal Khashoggi 'strangled' as he entered consulate: Turkish prosecutor

Hatice Cengiz said President Trump 'should help reveal the truth'

A group of Republican senators urged President Donald Trump on Wednesday to suspend negotiations with Saudi Arabia on a potentially lucrative atomic energy agreement following the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The Turkish investigators rejected the request, TRT said, instead calling on the Saudi prosecutor to reveal information about the location of Khashoggi's body, which has not yet been found. On Wednesday, unidentified state sources again began dominating news coverage of the murder, saying a Saudi prosecutor who had flown to Turkey to work on the case was unhelpful.

He added, "Now we have to solve this case. No need to prevaricate, it makes no sense to try to save certain people", Erdoğan said.

Self-exiled dissident journalist Khashoggi was killed four weeks ago in Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul, where he had gone to collect documents allowing him to remarry.

He met with Istanbul's chief prosecutor twice, visited the consulate and spoke with Turkey's MIT intelligence agency.

Al-Mojeb then went to the consulate and left after spending a little over an hour there.

Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, a younger brother of King Salman and uncle of Crown Prince Salman, arrived on Tuesday after nearly three months overseas.

Khashoggi, a onetime Saudi insider and US resident who lived in self-imposed exile for nearly a year before his death, had written critically of the crown prince in columns for The Washington Post.

Cengiz expressed disappointment in the "leadership of many countries".

"He should not pave the way for a cover-up of my fiance's murder", she said.

In the month since, Saudi officials have released several shifting accounts of the events surrounding Khashoggi's death.

Riyadh's European allies have criticised its initial response and United States President Donald Trump said Saudi authorities had staged the "worst cover-up ever", although he has repeatedly said he would not jeopardise USA business with the kingdom.

The Washington Post writer and frequent critic of Saudi leadership returned to the building October 2 and was killed.

Unnamed Saudi officials previously claimed that Khashoggi's body was wrapped up in some kind of fabric and given to a local Turkish co-conspirator.

"Either the Saudi foreign minister or the 18 suspects must explain who the local co-conspirators are", Erdoğan said. We want to keep our journalism open and accessible and be able to keep providing you with news and analyses from the frontlines of Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish World.

VOA reported last week about a series of Khashoggi-related discussions involving princes sidelined by MBS and who bear the crown prince a grudge.

Even before Khashoggi's murder, there had been talk in Saudi expatriate circles that Ahmad was ready to become outspoken in criticism of MBS's policies, especially over the war in Yemen and his eschewing of traditional rule-by-family-consensus.
