Trump Blames Forest Management For Wildfires Again During California Visit

California's Deadliest Fire Is Seen Engulfing Paradise in'Astonishing Satellite Images

California's outgoing Democratic governor Jerry Brown visited the scene of devastation at the town of Paradise with Donald Trump on Saturday.

The death toll from wildfires in Northern California has risen to 76, with thousands left homeless from the deadliest blaze to hit the U.S. state in a century.

Brown suggested that there were other factors that are causing the massive wildfires that have struck California in recent years besides forest management, including the drought.

"So yeah, you can mull the science, but I'll tell you every year it's going to get clearer and clearer so that I think in less than five years, even the worst skeptics are going to be believers".

The Camp Fire has destroyed almost 10,000 homes since it sparked November 8 and torched 233 square miles (600 square kilometers).

The walled-off villas of the rich, however, burned just as quickly as the RVs and small homes torched up north. Trump, a real estate billionaire, was aghast as he surveyed the devastation, framed by the Pacific Ocean and the southern California hills.

More than 230,000 acres have burned in California in the past week - an area larger than Chicago and Boston combined.

His tone seems to have shifted on Saturday, when he flew out to the state to see the destruction for himself, tweeting that he was looking forward to "being with our courageous Firefighters, First Responders, and FEMA".

"I hope it solves the problem, if it doesn't, you know, I'll be told and we'll make a decision at that time", Trump said.

With that bold and perhaps unlikely prediction, Trump evoked his initial tweeted reaction to the fire, the worst in the state's history, in which he seemed to blame local officials and threatened to take away federal funding.

Hours later, the president declared a disaster in the state, praised the firefighters and emergency medical workers for their "incredible courage" and pledged federal aid.

I want great climate.

Trump has always been skeptical of man's role in global warming despite mounting scientific evidence that the burning of fossil fuels is heating the planet and leading to more extreme weather. A full cover of haze and the smell of smoke greeted the president upon his arrival at an Air Force base, as did the governor and his successor.

If people find their own or loved ones' names on the list at the Butte County Sheriff's Office's website, they should call the sheriff's office, Honea said.

He said that on a positive note, 329 people who had been listed as missing since the fire broke out had so far been accounted for.

As the community attempted to cope with the loss, a wildfire the next day caused many in the town to evacuate.

The Republican president was accompanied on his visit by son-in-law Jared Kushner and chief of staff John Kelly.

"I think everybody's seen the light and I don't think we'll have this again to this extent", Mr Trump said in Paradise, the town largely destroyed by a wildfire ignited on November 8 that he called "this monster". "Thousands and thousands of homes got destroyed with no trees around", she said amongst other evacuees at a shelter set up by the American Red Cross in a church.

The Camp and Woolsey fires are around 55% and 88% contained, respectively.

Rescuers with sniffer dogs have been conducting a painstaking house-to-house search.

Trump also visited Southern California, where firefighters were making progress on a wildfire that tore through communities west of Los Angeles from Thousand Oaks to Malibu, killing three people.

"It seems that many more people are missing than anyone thought even possible", Trump told reporters in Washington, saying he looked forward to meeting fire responders and firefighters who have been "incredibly fearless".

California's tragedy touched the heart of Pope Francis in Rome, where on Sunday he sent out "a special prayer.to those affected by the fires that are ravaging California".
