Trump warns Brexit may harm UK-US trade

European Union to approve Brexit deal Tusk

British Prime Minister Theresa May has warned MPs in Parliament that failing to back the Brexit deal she agreed with the European Union in Brussels would take Britain "back to square one". Because, you know, right now, if you look at the deal, they may not be able to trade with us ...

"That wouldn't be a good thing. This discourages investment in the UK and ultimately means that UK workers are less productive than they would have been if the UK had stayed in the EU", NIESR commented on the findings of its report. "There isn't", Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said. "And hopefully, she'll be able to do something about that", Trump said.

"We should use the time now to look for a third way", she added.

It added that a working group scoping out an "ambitious" trade deal with the USA has met five times already. "We've met with the president on a number of occasions in recent months".

May faces a crucial few days as she builds up consensus around the withdrawal agreement before it comes up for a Commons vote, expected around December 12.

Prime Minister Theresa May and European Union leaders have reached a withdrawal agreement on the terms of Britain's departure from the EU on March 29, 2019, which includes a 21-month "transition period".

In her previous efforts, she also tried to win over members of parliament by mobilizing public and business opinion in favor of her Brexit deal.

Sir Michael Fallon, her former defence secretary, who was once the go-to cabinet minister when Number 10 needed a voice to bat for Mrs May on the airwaves, rubbed salt in the wound by agreeing with the U.S. president.

But Mrs May said a debate could take place on December 9. "We have to get this right".

"This is that deal".

Mrs May is on a frantic tour of the United Kingdom, delivering her message that MPs must understand that there is no other deal on the table and that voting down her deal would risk a chaotic crash exit without one.

Main opposition leader, Labour's Jeremy Corbyn, said May's deal was a "botched" job, saying the negotiations between Britain and the European Union had failed.

He also said that he hoped May would be able to "do something about that", but he did not specify which details of the deal he was concerned about.

Following a Cabinet meeting on Monday morning to brief ministers on her strategy to sell the deal, May went to the Commons to directly appeal to MPs to "listen" to their constituents and "decide what is in our national interest".

"This bad deal does not deliver for anyone - no matter if you voted leave or remain".

"I am willing to stand up and explain why I think it is the best possible deal available for the United Kingdom".

She said rejecting it "would open the door to more division and more uncertainty, with all the risks that will entail".

In a sign of the difficulties facing May, former defence secretary Michael Fallon, once an ultra-loyalist, said Tuesday that the deal gave Britain "the worst of all worlds" and vowed to vote against it on Dec 11. "It's an act of national self-harm", he said.

"It is no surprise some are already trying to lay down markers again for the future relationship, but they should be getting used to the answer by now: it is not going to happen".

"We're disappointed with the way this has progressed", she told the BBC political commentator. Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has said it will review its parliamentary pact with the Conservatives that props up the May-led government's wafer-thin majority, if the deal ends up being approved by MPs.
