Patrick Mahomes on Kareem Hunt assault: 'We don't do those things'

Kareem Hunt cut by Kansas City Chiefs after alleged assault video on woman emerges

"I saw the stuff that happened", Mahomes said after the game, via ESPN's Adam Teicher. The video showed Hunt pushing the woman and kicking her when she was on the ground.

The team quickly put out the word that the reason they had waited so long was that because after the incident, which led to a police report but no arrests, Hunt had lied to them about what took place and they didn't see the truth until they witnessed the video. It seems possible that both the National Football League offices and the Chiefs knew that there was a video and chose to hope that it would never see the light of day. "I didn't tell them everything", Hunt said. "If I could (contact her), I want to tell her right now that I am sorry for my actions that night". I know my upbringing wasn't flawless.

The video was published earlier Friday by TMZ.

"You can't really explain it". "The video shows it". I was in the wrong. "I'm definitely not that kind of person". That next stage starts Monday, when Hunt will learn by 4 p.m. ET if any of the other 31 teams have claimed him off waivers.

"Honestly, I never met the girl before", Hunt said.

"It was just a disagreement", he said. He declined to say what the argument was about but it prompted him to ask Ottinger to leave his apartment. "To be exact, it don't really matter what happened". "I was in the wrong".

"The Chiefs are right, and I didn't tell them everything", he said.

No charges have been filed against Hunt, but he admits he acted inappropriately that night. Kareem was not truthful in those discussions.

The admission came during an interview with ESPN's Lisa Salters. Everybody cares about you. It was a tough conversation.

"I was definitely upset. I just want to apologize to everybody, the Chiefs organization, my family and close friends". "And those [players] are like my brothers", he added. Police said they did not see the video until it was made public.

Hunt said he has yet to reach out to Ottinger. It's tough because I feel like I let a lot of people down.

She said she wanted Hunt prosecuted for the alleged assault and/or for stealing her phone's SIM card. In the course of a few hours, Hunt was sent home from the facility, placed on the NFL's Commissioner Exemption List, and finally released by the AFC West-leading Chiefs.

"The NFL's ongoing investigation will include further attempts to speak to the complainants involved in the incident", the statement read.

The video brought immediate comparisons to the footage of former Ravens running back Ray Rice, who was seen punching out his then-fiancee in an elevator. Reflection. I think he's going to do that. It is hard to practice what to do in the most intense moments and about making those split-second decisions.
