Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray Wants To Play Football And Baseball ‘If Possible’

Murray Wins Davey O'Brien Award

Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Oklahoma's Kyler Murray split four college football year-end awards Thursday, setting up a showdown for Saturday night when they contend for the Heisman Trophy.

Herbstreit will be in NY for the Heisman Trophy ceremony later tonight. He beat out Oklahoma's Kyler Murray and West Virginia's Will Grier for the award.

Murray won over Tagovailoa and Minshew for the O'Brien.

Murray, a fourth-year junior, replaced last season's Heisman victor and had an even better season than his predecessor.

Murray has led Oklahoma to a 12-1 record, a Big 12 championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff semifinals, where the Sooners will face Alabama in the Orange Bowl.

Murray was the most exciting player in college football this season and his success has many thinking he could reverse course and choose the NFL over the Major League Baseball.

The O'Brien Award was initially given to the top player in the Southwest before going to a quarterback-only honor in 1981. Griffin was a running back at Ohio State from 1972 to 1975, finishing fifth in Heisman voting after his sophomore season before winning the trophy in both his junior and senior years. If Haskins wins for Ohio State, the university will surpass Notre Dame as the program to have produced the most Heisman winners. No other school has had more than two AP Player of the Year winners. Mayfield won the award last season. Murray, who batted.296 with 10 home runs and 13 doubles in 50 games as the Sooners' center fielder, signed for almost $5 million, with the A's agreeing to let him return to school and play football this season. Tagovailoa also broke Alabama's single-game touchdown records with six (five passing, one rushing) during Alabama's 52-21 victory over Auburn.
