De Gea, Solskjaer, Sanchez and more

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaks to the media at Carrington on Friday

That loss resulted in the sack of Jose Mourinho, and the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker manager until the end of the current term.

Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez has rubbished reports he revelled in the sacking of Jose Mourinho after purportedly winning a bet of £20,000 (NZ$37,650) with a team-mate when his former manager left the club.

Speaking for the first time in his new role, Solskjaer, who joined United from Norwegian side Molde, told MUTV on Thursday that he's going to "be myself", which includes restoring joy back on the pitch.

United fans sing about Solskjaer making them happy when skies are grey, and his warm smiles on camera were a panacea to those who have had to watch Mourinho grumble, growl and scowl during press conferences this season. "Rojo you owe me £20k".

Keanae launched into an extraordinary tirade, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: 'I think the players obviously get away with murder.

He said: "You certainly get to see the players in a game, in a pressure situation, but I think the amount of games coming up is no problem because you've got this unbelievable squad of players".

Mourinho's most high-profile bust-up was with Paul Pogba, who was left on the bench for Mourinho's last three league games, but Solskjaer knows the France worldwide well after a spell in charge of United's reserves between 2008 and 2010. "I've already been in touch with him because there's no one better to get advice from".

"I have nothing to say. We want to see them play the football they can do".

Solskjaer's United spell begins at struggling Cardiff on Saturday, before back-to-back home games against Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth ahead of the new year.

Solskjaer wrote himself into United history in May 1999 when his injury-time goal against Bayern Munich - after coming on as a late substitute - completed a remarkable Champions League final comeback, the pinnacle of his 11-year stay.

"[Ferguson] had a saying and I will never forget it: "If you're good enough, you're old enough", Solskjaer said.

"I'm really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club".

United's season is pretty much over, so it is not as if we are fighting for the title where higher levels of experience in the crucial situations would be needed.

"I can't wait to help the team", he added. I'm good at controlling the emotion, so I won't be that emotional.

"I have been immensely proud to wear the badge of Manchester United since the first day I arrived, and I believe all United supporters recognise this", he said.
