Trump’s move to leave Syria & Afghan leaves West in a tizzy

Putin Welcomes Trump's Syria Withdrawal: 'Donald's Right'

The reports say that US President Donald Trump made the decision to pull the troops - about half the number the United States has in Afghanistan now - at the same time he chose to pull American forces out of Syria.

Meanwhile, Turkish-backed Syrian opposition fighters said this week that they are preparing to move into eastern Syria alongside Turkish troops as USA forces withdraw and were massing on the front line of Manbij town.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier this month that Turkish forces would enter the town if the U.S. does not remove the Kurdish fighters.

"We have defeated ISIS [Daesh] in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency."

And Kalin vowed that there was "no question of a step backwards, vulnerability or a slowdown in the fight against Daesh". France is a member of the worldwide coalition against IS led by the United States against jihadists in Syria and Iraq.

Turkey has amassed troops on the Syrian border as it plans to take over the fight against the Islamic State (IS) from the United States in the war-torn neighboring country amid Ankara's diplomatic shuttle to coordinate its moves with allies. To beat Daesh, we don't need the PKK or the YPG. Turkey is an active member of the Global Coalition Against Daesh and is co-chairing Counter-Daesh Coalition Working Group on Foreign Terrorist Fighters.

Speaking to air force cadets at the Hatzerim Air Force Base on December 26, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Trump's decision to remove American troops from Syria "does not change our policies-we will maintain our red lines in Syria and everywhere else".

Turkey has previously launched two operations with the rebels in Syria against IS in August 2016 and against the YPG in its northwestern enclave of Afrin in January 2018.

Syrian government troops backed by Russian forces have sent enforcements towards the northern city of Manbij in coordination with the Kurdish fighters who control it, as Turkish-backed Syrian rebels said they were preparing to attack the city, Reuters reported on Tuesday. Their worst fear is a repeat of a Turkish attack that drove Kurdish residents and the YPG militia out of Afrin city in the northwest earlier this year.

Turkish officials have previously said Ankara has no territorial ambitions in Syria.

On Monday, Trump further defended his decision to declare victory over the IS caliphate and pull US troops from Syria, tweeting criticism of both outgoing Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and former Special Envoy Brett McGurk.

Syrian troops were positioned in areas to the west of Manbij on Tuesday, in anticipation of a potential offensive.

Last week, the USA approved the sale of $3.5 billion in missiles to Turkey, after American outrage over Ankara's major arms purchase from Russian Federation. The Nato allies reached an agreement in June for the YPG to leave but Turkey says its implementation has been delayed.
