Brexit: PM 'working to get further European Union assurances'

The UK Government is planning a traffic stress-test with HGVs as part of no-deal Brexit preparation

With the United Kingdom preparing to leave the European Union on March 29, more Britons now say they want to remain a member nation, according to a new survey published Sunday.

The vote on the current Brexit deal proposed by May's government is reportedly to take place on 15 January, with the formal debate kicking off in parliament on 9 January.

The disused airfield, near Ramsgate in Kent, had its runway used as an HGV holding bay as a test in the event of problems caused by a disorderly exit from the EU.

However, her speech came minutes after Mr Schinas had said that while Mrs May would speak to EC president Jean-Claude Juncker this week, "there is no negotiation because everything on the table has been established as approved, established, achieved".

In a series of posts on Twitter, he said: "Routing lorries via Manston is not the answer".

Dover has been Britain's most important gateway to Europe since Roman times and the port now handles 17 percent of the United Kingdom's goods trade.

Moves so far would be only the "tip of the iceberg" if there is a no-deal Brexit, EY said.

Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran, of the anti-Brexit Best For Britain campaign, said it was a "taxpayer-funded farce" while Shadow Transport Secretary Andy McDonald said it was "beyond parody".

Of the 2,000 people polled for the Channel 4 study, 67 per cent said talking about Brexit made them stressed and 32 per cent said they tried to change the subject.

"Today's trial can not possibly duplicate the reality of 4,000 trucks being held at Manston airport in the event of a no-deal Brexit", the RHA's chief executive Richard Burnett said in a statement.

He said the test may need to be repeated, adding: "This process should have started nine months ago".

She repeatedly sidestepped questions about whether she would keep putting the deal back to MPs if it gets rejected, instead saying: "If the deal is not voted on, this vote that is coming up, then actually we are going to be in uncharted territory. At this late stage it looks like window dressing".

Lawmakers are due to vote on whether to accept Ms.

The letter has been backed by business organisations such as the Confederation of British Industry, manufacturers' organisation EEF, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

"I would say don't let the search for the ideal become the enemy of the good because the danger there is that we end up with no Brexit at all".

The prime minister denied reports on Sunday that she is preparing to delay the vote on the deal she has secured from the European Union for a second time, suggesting that it will happen on the week of the 14th.

These include specific measures relating to Northern Ireland, plans for a greater role for parliament in Brexit decision-making, and further assurances from the European Union amid concerns about the so-called backstop arrangement for the Irish border.

Reports this weekend suggest that Downing Street are planning to put the deal before parliament up to 30 times in an attempt to bludgeon MPs into backing it in order to prevent a no-deal Brexit.

"This deal will not be renegotiated".
